About the Project:

This is a project of the Lesbian Herstory Archives exhibitions. Visit lesbianherstoryarchives.org for information about the organization - an all-volunteer collective since 1974 - and our additional digital collections, events, and ways to get involved.

The LHA Digital Exhibits site includes materials showcased in previous exhibitions curated by the Lesbian Herstory Archives, digitized and made available online for the first time. The site is organized as Exhibits and Collections,

Exhibits are comprised of scholarly essays, presented alongside materials - posters, zines, photographs, diary pages - selected from the larger Collections. Exhibit contributors include Doctoral and Master’s students from the CUNY Graduate Center and Long Island University, providing original research and historical context, and from a variety of disciplines - Art History, Women’s and Gender Studies, English, Archives and Public History.

The Salsa Soul Sisters exhibition collection includes multiple exhibits with contributions by Kru Maekdo of Black Lesbian Archives and independent scholar, Alexis Pauline Gumbs. This project was made possible by a two-year Mellon Foundation Public Knowledge grant to the Lesbian Herstory Archives.
